Project 1 : Mobile Application Proposal
Low J- Yin / 0352888
Introduction
Exercise
Students are required to create a proposal documentation for their
mobile application project.
We are required to redesign an existing app that we find
unsatisfactory in terms of the user experience or
interface design and its subject to preliminary approval by the
module coordinator. Students need to do surveys, interviews,
market studies and research on the selected topic.
The document should also include
key features of their mobile application and provide clear
flowchart of the app. The document will determine whether the
mobile application idea is good to continue to the next
development phase.
This task is an iterative process whereby during the assignment
period, students are free to get feedback from their peers and
module coordinator to further refine their idea.
fig 1.0 research of food delivery app design
I had start my research with case study of food delivery app design. I
had research on Burger King, Shopee Food, Grab Food, FoodPanda,
and BAIJIA Delivery.
After consideration, i want to focus on food delivery apps on Malaysia
which is:
1. Lalamove
2. Shopee
3. Grab
4. FoodPanda
5. Bungkusit
6. BAIJIA Delivery
I had found out Grab and Foodpanda doesn’t have much need to change
for their application design. So i decided to research on Shopee,
Bungkusit and BAIJIA Delivery.
1. Bungkusit
fig 1.1 screenshot of "Bungkusit" app
- Cons: Smaller user base compared to larger platforms,
may have limited resources for comprehensive redesign.
Core Problems
As from the screenshot, there are too many additional navigation
that are usefulness for users. When users pressed to the Hot Deals
and 50% Off, there will be "No Food Restaurants found".
2. Poor Search Functionality: The search function have bad user experience for users to find restaurants and dishes they're interested in quickly.
As from the screenshot, there are dessert, which named "Street
Churros" appears when user pressed into the "Korean" food icons.
This problem had happened when i pressed into the "Pizza"
restaurant icon.
3. Unclear Information Display: Users profile doesn’t have clear editing options with prompts or tooltips. The important user infomation, such as account details and order history, had not presented clearly and consistently, confusing displays can lead to user frustration.
As from the screenshot, the icon did not give clear instructions
of what is the icon for, for the important information such as my
address, payment methods, my account and help centre din't
included in "My Profiles".
2. Shopee Food
- Pros: Part of the Shopee ecosystem, potential for
integration with e-commerce features, access to Shopee's user base.
- Cons: Relatively new in the food delivery market, may
face challenges establishing itself against established competitors.
Core Problems
1. Users may find the app interface cumbersome or confusing, leading
to frustration and abandonment of the platform.
As for the screenshot, there are too much of discount and deals in
the navigation bar which make users confused, below the navigation
bar, the information of discount and deals have repeated on the
continuous page.
2. The application lacks a minimalistic design approach, resulting
in untidy and cluttered design language, which undermines the
overall cleanliness and user-friendliness of the interface.
As from the screenshot, the colour and font are showing not
consistent design elements, may affect user experience when they
look into the application.
3. Confusing Ordering Process could be deter users from completing
their orders. Streamlining the order flow, reducing the number of
step, and providing clear instruction can help users navigate
through the ordering process more efficiently.
As from the screenshot, the "Popcorn Chicken" will be (save RM3) and
the price had showed RM5.99, There isn’t any information to show
that RM5.99 are discounted or not.
3. BAIJIA Delivery
- Pros:Insights into the Chinese food delivery market,
potential for cross-cultural analysis, exploration of unique design
elements.
- Cons: Limited relevance to the Malaysian market,
language and cultural differences may pose challenges in
understanding user needs.
Why i choose BAIJIA Delivery?
- Learning Opportunities: Analyzing Baijia Delivery's user interface, user experience, and feature set can offer valuable learning opportunities for understanding best practices in app design, usability, and customer engagement.
- BAIJIA Delivery is a food delivery service, mainly focusing on Chinese Culture food and drinks. Studying its UI/UX design would provide insights into designing for local preferences and behaviors.
Core Problems
1. Delivery Tracking Issues: Users rely on accurate and real-time
updates on their order status and delivery progress. Improving the
accuracy and reliability of delivery tracking features, including
estimated delivery times and live order tracking, enhances
transparency and user trust.
As from my experience, the apps wont have real-time updates on their
order status. The delivery address will need to add on by users when
every time click on the application, which means that the apps don't
have live-order tracking.
2.Limited Payment Options: User have different preferences when it
comes to payment methods. Some may preferences when it comes to
payment methods. Some may prefer to use credit/debit card, as while as
cash on demand. Limited payment options to only few methods causes
inconvenience users who prefer alternative payment methods.
As from the screenshot, the payment options only available for digital
wallet.
As from the screenshot, the FAQ page doesn’t shows up affective feedback
forms, rating prompts, and customer support channels encourages user
engagement and helps address concerns promptly.

Reflection
Exploring the BAIJIA Delivery app taught me the importance of user-centric features like real-time tracking and diverse payment options. I realized that improving feedback mechanisms and ensuring reliable payment processing are crucial for user satisfaction. Addressing the challenges of integrating new features and balancing simplicity with functionality was a significant learning experience. This journey highlighted the need for continuous improvement and technical robustness to enhance overall user experience.
